  English for Humanities : overview

English for Humanities is divided into two sub-categories:

English for Social Sciences and English for Arts

1- English for Social Sciences is a course that focuses on developing English communicative competence in various social fields such as psychology, sociology, education, communication, geography, history, etc. It aims at developing reading, writing and listening skills of students who already have an upper intermediate level in English.
Each lesson contains a reading activity and a listening activity. It also contains a grammar activity or a writing activity. The student is therefore asked to practice three skills out of four on a weekly basis and during two hours.

2- English for Arts
EFA1 is the first module in a set of three modules (EFA1, EFA2, and EFA3). It is an online interactive course targeting students who study Music, Cinema, Theatre, Painting, Sculpture, Handicrafts, Architecture and any other discipline in relation with Arts.
This course attempts to break down artificial boundaries between different forms of Art and to initiate learners to take control of their own learning skills and strategies so that they gradually achieve independence and self-confidence.
It gives 1st year students exposure to a wide range of reading and listening comprehension texts, interactive language activities (grammar, functions, lexis). It also, gradually introduces them to writing as a productive task. All the activities are interactive, task-based and introduced in an integrated way, which helps students develop, consolidate, improve and increase their English language skills specific to Arts.

Guidelines
Dear students,
We advise you to follow the pre-set organization of the lessons as they move smoothly and gradually from general to specific ones. Besides, some of them are thematically or grammatically interrelated, hence the importance of their sequencing in such an order.
Since Distance Education helps you take control of your learning by building your own study skills and strategies, you are expected to use the Online Dictionary, the Instant Translator and all the resources made available for you in order to gain more practice, more confidence and more independence. In fact, only the lessons which comprise writing activities require the presence of your teacher.
When you encounter any difficulties, don´t forget to contact your tutor through his or her email or the platform discussion forum.
You are advised to download all the audio and video files on your computers for better sound and speed quality.
Each lesson is meant to last 2 hours, but depending on your pace and level, you can take all the time needed. Flexibility is a key word!
